About Oyebi

Too often, the story people read is not the same story people on the ground are living.

In many places, information is restricted, filtered, delayed, or shaped by powerful institutions. Independent journalists may know what is happening but lack the reach or backing of large media organizations. Ordinary people may witness something important — a danger, an event, an opportunity, an injustice — but have no simple way to make that information visible beyond their own social-media circle.

Yet thousands of people are there.

They see it.

They live it.

They know what is happening.

Oyebi was created to give those people a place to speak, share, and be heard.

Our mission is simple:

Give people greater access to information and give communities a stronger voice.

Oyebi allows people to share what is happening around them directly on a map, so information can be discovered because of where it happened, not because you already follow the person who posted it.

Someone may report a dangerous situation that helps another person avoid it.

Someone may share something happening in their community before traditional media reports it.

Someone may discover an opportunity they would otherwise never have known existed.

And an independent journalist can publish their work directly to the people who want to read it.

There are situations where speaking publicly can put someone at risk.

That is why Oyebi gives users the option to publish community posts anonymously.

Their public identity does not need to appear with the post. Our goal is to make it easier for people to share important information without forcing them to publicly expose who they are.

Language should not determine what information you can access.

Oyebi is built so that someone can discover information from another country or community and understand it in the language they are most comfortable with.

Whether you are living in Africa or part of the diaspora, you should be able to stay connected to what is happening in the places that matter to you.

AI also helps users explore, summarize, translate, and better understand the information available on the platform.

We believe information becomes more powerful when more people have access to it.

We believe journalism should not belong only to large media organizations.

We believe ordinary people can sometimes provide important information simply because they were there.

And we believe technology can help connect those voices across cities, countries, languages, and borders.

Oyebi exists to help people see more, know more, and speak more freely.
